Pan Am TV Shoot, November 14-15, 2011
The ninth episode (“Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang”) of ABC’s new drama Pan Am is scheduled to air on Sunday, December 4, 2011, 10/9c. They included me in a bunch of scenes, but the most prominent one involves the characters Laura and Ted and a fire alarm in a London hotel. Look for me in a bath robe with a blue scarf around my head!
We arrived on location at about 5:15 AM, received instructions, and ate a delicious breakfast. Around 7:00 AM, the hair stylist put my hair in rollers; when she took them out, she teased my hair to give it some ’60s pouf. However, my first scene was shot around 1 PM and the curl didn’t hold that long. So the stylist restyled my hair into a beehive!

On set, the hair stylist noticed that my poufy hair had fallen, so she restyled it into a beehive. It took so long that I missed the first scene involving extras.

I wore my own jewelry - a vintage Monet necklace and vintage gold-tone earrings - with approval from the wardrobe department.

I never knew my hair could stay up like this, but I now realize that hairspray makes anything possible!

My student J.D. aced his very first audition and landed the role of the Cheshire Cat in Media Theatre’s production of Alice in Wonderland. This picture was taken following the opening performance.

My newly acquired Casio Celviano Digital Piano, October 9, 2009
I recently traded in my 1985 61-key Roland Alpha Juno-2 for a gorgeous used Casio Celviano Digital Piano with 88 weighted keys. It feels and sounds like a real piano, but it’s much easier to move and will never need to be tuned!

In a practice room at Eastman, August 2009
The week offered plenty of chances for the attendees to sing. We could participate in master classes and also had the chance to schedule private lessons with Eastman voice faculty. Here I am practicing for the closing recital in which I sang “The Daises” by Samuel Barber.

Voice studio renovations, phase 3, September 27, 2009
Phase 3 = installing laminate floor
Some details still need to be finished. We need to add quarter round molding around the edges of the room. Also, I need to bring up some more furniture, purchase mirrors, maybe add a rug, etc.

With baritone Thomas Hampson, April 2006
I managed to snag a moment with one of my very favorite singers, American baritone Thomas Hampson, backstage at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. He had just finished performing Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

"The Magic Flute," Academy of Vocal Arts, February 2003
I sang the role of “Dritter Knabe” (Third Boy) in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. (The three boys are often sung by women.) The production was set in India, and I was hoping to wear a sexy sari. No such luck - they made me a bald boy. (That’s me to the far left.) It wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was tons of fun - and even more hard work! I learned a lot and loved every moment. (Well, almost. Putting on the bald cap was no fun at all!)

A photographer at the Kimmel Center needed to test the light, so he asked me to smile for the camera. :)
